Private Fishing & Lessons

Private Fishing & Lessons

With over half a mile of Ullswater lake frontage and your own private boathouse and jetty you are in the perfect spot to go fly fishing or line fishing and take in the wonders of Ullswater. Ullswater is thought by many to be the most beautiful of all the lakes in the northern Lake District, a serpentine body of water snaking a seven mile course under the lea of magnificent fells, woodland and mountain.

Whether you are a seasoned pro or fancy a few lessons we can make these arrangements for you. Should you even wish to head out into the middle of Ullswater and fish by boat this is something we are only too happy to arrange for you through our service providers.

This beautiful lake is the second largest lake in Cumbria at more than seven miles long and just over half a mile wide. Ullswater holds Salmon, Brown Trout, Perch, and perhaps an odd Pike. The average size of the Brown Trout is approximately 10-14 inches [26-26cm], but there are larger specimens. Ullswater's mysterious waters are also home to the very rare Arctic Char and Schelly, an endangered and protected whitefish relic from the last Ice Age.

Mid-March to the end of June is normally the peak fishing period on Ullswater. A light ripple and cloudy skies are the perfect combination for a good day's fishing. If the conditions are not suitable on the arranged day, there are plenty of rivers in the area, so the day need not be wasted. Mayflies normally start to hatch in earnest by mid-May and the trout are soon on them. Suitable mayfly imitations can offer some great sport during this period. Daytime sport during the warmer months of July and August can be slow. Given the correct conditions, Ullswater normally comes good again in September and the lake can offer sport to the end of the season on September 30th.

River Eden Fly Fishing

Through our service partners, Waternook can arrange guided fly fishing and tuition/lessons for Trout and Grayling on the River Eden and the English Lakes District in Cumbria. These services are also available on the River Eden's tributaries: the River Eamont and River Lowther. Our service partner is based in the beautiful English Lake District and also caters for guided boat or bank fishing trips and lessons on Ullswater and Haweswater. Fly fishing for Rainbow trout on local stocked waters is also provided. An outing on one of our beautiful rivers or lakes is a personalised fishing experience, provided by a fully qualified professional fly fishing guide and instructor with over 45 years experience, based in Cumbria in the United Kingdom. Anglers of all abilities are catered for: a day on one of our Eden rivers or Lake District waters will be tailored to suit your requirements. Fishing bookings, licences and loan of tackle can all be organised for the visiting angler.

Important note

Don't forget your fishing licence - Any angler aged 12 years or over will need an Environment Agency rod licence. Daily, weekly or seasonal licences are available at post offices or online at Environment Agency website

Personal Training at Waternook

Personal Training at Waternook

Do you need help reaching your fitness goals? At Waternook you are in the perfect location to turn the outdoor environment into your own personal gym. Our PT service partner is an award winning trainer and will visit you here on site. You may be asking, what are the benefits to a personal trainer? Here is a low down:

Teaching you the correct form

A personal trainer will be able to teach and guide you on how to perform exercises correctly and safely. If you’re new to the gym, or new to lifting weights, learning how to perform exercises can be particularly beneficial. Having good technique is an important foundation everyone should build to avoid risk of injury, recruit the targeted muscles properly, and to maximise your progress, with or without your trainer.

Hold an objective eye

When working out alone, you can’t always tell if you need to adjust your posture, position, or range of movement. Personal trainers can help you with this by monitoring your form during your training, and correct you if necessary. This will help you to avoid risk of injury and ensure that you are recruiting the target muscles properly and optimising your workout.

Provide you a wealth of knowledge

Personal trainers will have a wealth of knowledge and experience in prescribing and instructing exercise. They will also be able to help you address lifestyle changes you can make to optimise your health. It is in their best interest to help you achieve your fitness goals, and part of their job is to stay up to date with industry trends and training methods which will save you time from doing all the research to achieve fitness success.

Push your limits

Personal trainers are very passionate about health and fitness and they want to help support you in achieving your fitness goals so they will both challenge and motivate you towards your full potential and help you take that one step further that you might not have if you were working out alone.

Hold you accountable

Have there been times when you thought to yourself you’ll go to the gym today but then you give yourself an excuse and you end up not turning up at the gym? Sometimes the toughest battle is getting to the gym. While we all have days when we feel unmotivated to work out but if it’s happening more often than not, having a personal trainer can help hold you accountable. While it’s easy to cancel plans to go to the gym if you’re going on your own, if you’ve made an appointment with your personal trainer, you’re far more likely to go and turn up.

Provide you with a bespoke training programme

Personal trainers will create a tailored training programme to suit your needs, abilities and goals, which a fitness class can’t provide. For example, if you're goal is to lose weight, your personal trainer would be able to programme your exercise to meet your specific needs and your goal. As there is no one size fits all approach when it comes to achieving fitness goals since everyone responds training and nutrition differently, your personal trainer will be able to monitor, adapt and progress your plan based on your needs, enabling you to optimise your training and get results faster.
